Hatton – A Religeous Zone

Hatton is a small town in Nuwara Eliya District of Central Province, Sri Lanka. It is known for its Ceylon tea plantations and industry. The town is situated at an elevation of 1271 m (4168ft)

How to get to Hatton?

Hatton is at A7 road and hill country. There are ways to Thalawakele, Kotagala, Kothmale, Nawalapitiya, Norwood, Bogawanthalawa via Balangoda, Laxapana and Ginigathhena. Bogawanthalawa area and Norwood area closed to Hatton.

Colombo-Badulla railway line, and Avissawella - NuwareEliya main Road (A7) the town serves as a gateway to Adam's Peak pilgrims, Nuwara Eliya and tourists.

In 2008 part of the Hatton town including religious places, was Gazetted as a Religious Zone by the Government of Sri Lanka.

Hatton railway station is a main railway station of upcountry,Sri Lanka. Every train heading upcountry stops at Hatton railway station.Closest railway station to the Adams Peak(Sri Pada) is Hatton.

Two main reserviors of Sri Lanka are also located close to Hatton. They are Kasalri and Maussakele. Bogawanthalawa, Norwood and a large number of tea estates are also found in Hatton. Several waterfalls

Adamspeak (Sri Padaya) means Samanola Kanda is just 36km from Hatton. There fore December to May season is very important to Hatton as it is the pilgrimage season.

Situated at around 2000m above sea level and surrounded by lush tea plantations NuwaraEliya- Hatton is the main hill resort of Sri Lanka and the heart of the tea industry. 

The Tea Cup

En route to Colombo via Hatton, about 10km from Hatton town towards Colombo The Tea Cup is easily recognizable by the large teacup in the front. Maintained by the Watawala Plantations Limited The Tea Cup offers brewed tea and snacks in addition to being a tea sales center. Toilets here were superbly clean.
