Ella - Small Village in the up country

Ella in Sri Lanka’s highlands is the perfect place for a little adventure travel as you can hike the hills for days on end. Trails lead you through tea plantations and dense forest paths. The highest peak in the area offer great panoramic views.
Ella, (meaning water fall in Sinhalese) aptly named in the backdrop of numerous waterfalls, small & large, which crash, gush or trickle down the mountainous terrain, is a beguiling village sitting tight & pretty at the southern ridge of the Central highlands of salubrious climate. Village is nestled in a magnificent valley peering straight through the opening amongst an idyllic green mountain ranges, right down to the coastal plain nearly 1000m below, & over to the coast. On a clear night, you can view the Kirinda lighthouse, which is 77 km far. The views in Ella are stunning with gorgeous jungle and tea estates.

Ella Rock

Ella Rock, Little Adam's Peak, a pyramid-shaped rock which stands opposite the far larger Ella Rock and offers marvelous views out over the hills The walk makes a very pleasant morning's excursion, and is fairly gentle and largely flat, apart from a small amount of climbing near the end. Count on around two hours return and go as early as possible before the clouds set in.

Rawana Falls

Rawan Ella is a waterfall in the village of Uduhawara, in Badulla district, Sri Lanka. It is located approximately 12 km (7.5 mi) from Welimada town.
Temples and caves are plenty and ready to be discovered in Ella and do not miss to visit the Handapangoda Elephant sanctuary too.

Demodara Railway Station

Demodara is the most popular and interesting railway station of Sri Lanka, located close to Badulla town. Specialties of Demodara are Demodara 9 Arc Bridge, Demodara Tunnel, Demodara Railway Station, Demodara tea Estates and so on. It is the one and only railway station where trains travel in the same horizontal level. There is a railway tunnel downside of the Demodara Railway station. The train comes through the tunnel and after travel about 400m gap which round way then comes to Station.

Nine arcs Stone Bridge

This viaduct was built at Gotuwala between the two railway stations - Ella and Demodara during the British Colonial period is the largest in Sri Lanka. Located almost 3100 feet above the sea level, this 99.6ft high bridge is called "Ahas namaye palama" (Nine skies bridge) in Sinhala. When one stands underneath it and looks up there is a beautiful sight of 'nine skies' through the nine arches, hence the Sinhala name. This bridge is also called 'The Bridge in the sky' due to the sheer hight.
The bridge is built entirely of solid rocks, bricks and cement without using a single piece of steel.

 Ella Adventure Park

An adventure park filled with activities in cooperating nature with the spirit of adventure.

Wooden Bridge of Ella

There is a temple belong to the King Walagamba era with caves and ancient frescoes. The bridge is the only wooden Bridge in Sri Lanka with a roof above, which belongs to the Kandy era.  The bridge has been built by placing 03 huge logs from Bogoda Ancient Temple across Gallanda stream. Either side of the bridge, there are 11 pairs of carved rails (Palisades). The roofing is done with Sinhala flat tiles. The timber is painted with a liquid made by an old recipe. The most significant feature of this bridge is that it has been built without using any nail.
Canoeing at Samanala Wewa also is available for those who are interested.
